Woo hoo: Freemium Plants vs. Zombies 2 for iOS is here. No sign of it for Android

Plants vs. Zombies 2 for iOS.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 for iOS.

Plants vs. Zombies is one of my favorite games. And, fans of the game have literally been waiting years for a sequel. Well, it is finally here for iOS devices. And, it’s free (freemium).

Plants vs. Zombies 2

A quick run through the first level shows a number of interesting additions to both plants and zombies (mummies on the first level). It makes for a more challenging but still playable game. A number of people have commented and complained about the numerous and somewhat expensive (when added all together) paid add-ons ranging from $1.99 to $7.99 per add-on. I don’t know yet if add-ons are necessary once you get to higher levels. But, the game is a lot of fun without dealing with add-ons in the early stage.

I could not find PvZ2 in Google’s Android Play Store. So, you need to be an iOS device user to enjoy this long awaited game for now.

Civilization Revolution: Version of my all-time favorite game available for Windows Phone

One of my all-time favorite computer games is Sid Meier’s Civilization for MS-DOS released in 1991. It is a turn-based strategy game whose goal is to advance your civilization enough to either conquer the other computer-controlled civilizations or to build a space ship to reach Alpha Centuri first.

Publisher 2K just released a version of this classic game for Windows Phone 7.5. Civilization Revolution is priced at $2.99.

Spider Jack for Windows Phone: What’s wrong with this game?

Spider Jack for Windows Phone is a $2.99 game under the Xbox Live imprint in the Windows Phone Marketplace. The game was previously released for the iPhone (99 cents there) and Android (also 99 cents). It is one of those games that would seem to have the right components to be entertaining. And, yet, it just didn’t come together for me. Here’s what I found…

[Video] Mini-review: Doodle God for Windows Phone

Doodle God for Windows Phone is a logic puzzle game that I consider to be in the casual game category. You can spend as little or as much time as you like and get entertainment for whatever time is spent. The game starts with four basic elements that are combined to create new ones. One goal is to create all 135 elements (really “compounds”) possible. Not all compounds are intuitive. For example, combining “life” and “ash” creates a “ghost”.

In addition to the main game play mode, Doodle God has minigames and quests. And, like other Xbox Live games, it has achievements and leaderboards.

Doodle God is priced at $2.99.

Disclosure: Microsoft provided the game free of charge for evaluation purposes.

Tower Madness HD: Interesting But Not my Cup of Tea

Tower Madness HD for the iPad is a free tower defense type game. The object is to place weapons in the path of the invading aliens to protect the sheep (sheep?). My problem with it is too difficult at the very first level. It seems to want to force you to make an in-app purchase (using real money) to buy better weapons.

Addictive games tend to be easy in the beginning to let your learn the rules and draw you in. Addictive games also provide enough interactivity to keep you interested and engaged. Tower Madness HD simply runs on automatic pilot for wave after wave after wave of invading aliens after you place the weapons on the playing field. I’m surprised it made it so high up the iTunes iPad free apps list (it is currently #4). I’m uninstalling it from my iPad. Next!
