I’m still trying to use Google Inbox as my main interface to Gmail. However, I had to remove the Android app because it killed my Nexus 4’s battery by late afternoon. According to the Android battery usage utility, the Google Inbox for Android app accounted for 34% of all battery use today.
Interestingly, the Google Inbox for iOS app does not appear to be creating any extra battery drain on my iPhone 6 Plus. So, I’ll continue to try it there. But, it was jettisoned from my Nexus 4 as soon as the phone had enough of a charge to boot back up.
Same on gs4. Today it DESTROYED my battery by 11am! 97.3% of battery usage!
same deal on IOS 8 with a 5s. Battery usage over last 24 hrs shows 13%. The Gmail app never showed more than 5 on heavy days.

On my iphone 6 , ios 8.1 the battery usage by google inbox is similar to what you’ve posted. Roughly 35% of the totals.
Same problem on my Nexus 4. Still no fix from Google.

I was enjoying a brief hiatus from my usual iPhone because the Moto X has proved itself to be a pretty adequate substitute. At least until I got my Inbox invite. Went from being quite excited with the new design and functionality to complete disappointment with the battery drain. With my personal average use, was getting 25-30 hrs of use. Dropped to 14-15 with Inbox. WTF. will have to wait for an app update to address the issue. Till then, I’m out.
