    Understand your point. Unfortunately, Windows has so much variability in what it launches after login (anti-virus, anti-spyware, Adobe updater, Google updater, HP updater, etc.) that the login-to-actual-use time varies by a huge amount. So, cold-start to login screen provided the best relatively stable measure compared to, for example, Ubuntu Netbook Remix booting on a netbook.
