It seems ,that Dan diagnosis for AS4.5 could be the right one(wrong/corrupted Mapi32.dll).
To fix problem caused by this file first double click Fixmapi.exe , located either in C:\winnt\system32 or C:\windows\system32.
Second step is to install AS4.5 . That’s all

Got a T-M Wing last year, downloaded AS5 from M$, loaded it on to an XP desktop which now suffers from a similar super long boot process. -Looks like it tries to sync at boot. I know screwing w/AS = more problems, but how can I control AS's damage to my XP desktop? (Turn it on and off when I want it too.)
