Stan Erickson: Microsoft Windows XP (starting with SP2) and Vista both provide firewalls for incoming threats. The problem with ZA is that it also has an outgoing firewall which prevents dial-home threats but also creates problems for other networking related applications. Consult with a trusted security source before making any changes to your system, of course.

This is all well and good for syncing, but for someone using PdaNet it raises concerns. PdaNet makes the Treo act like a modem, so that someone who has Treo service can connect to the internet anyplace and anytime, without having excess charges applied.

It runs through the ActiveSync for mobilephones using Windows Mobile OS. If you make that ActiveSync connection into a trusted zone one, does that eliminate ZA's protections entirely???????

I would like to use ZA to provide protection both when I go wireless and when I run through PdaNet/Treo.

MariaC: The T-Mobile Dash is a Windows Mobile Smartphone. ActiveSync does not sync Outlook Notes with a Smartphone since it does not have a Notes applet. It will, however, sync it with a Windows Mobile Pocket PC/Phone Edition device such as the T-Mobile MDA. There are third party applications that provide a Notes function on a Smartphone and a way to sync it with your PC.

i have a tmobile Dash device and am using Microsoft ActiveSync 4.2 For some reason under Tools, Options, I no longer have Notes listed as a app that I can sync. no idea why it is missing. I uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync but it is still missing. I tried getting support from Tmobile but of course they were useless.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks,

[...] Reader Phil Smith (in a comment to a previous blog item) asks: My wife has an HP IPAQ 1910 PDA, running the older version of ActiveSync that allows backups and restores. The battery died and it lost everything. Can you tell me what is the latest version of ActiveSync that includes backups and restores. Also, what is the extension on the backups.
